Biography Daniel Radcliffe
the film set, Dan attends a private "all boys" school. Dan knew he wanted to "act" at the age of five. He unfortunately did not land a part in "Oliver Twist", a Charles Dickens television production, but went on to appear as "David" in the coveted Dickens classic, David Copperfield, released in 2000. Auditioning up against hundred's of boys, Dan was surprised to get the part which was suggested by a friend. In 2001, Dan took a small part (Mark Pendel) in John Boorman's "The Tailor of Panama." The film was released and written from John LeCarre's popular spy novel.
Dan was unbelievable, and he landed the role of "Harry Potter", the famous, modern, literary character who stars in author J. K. Rowling's popular book series. After having seen Dan in "David Copperfield", Director Chris Columbus had Dan brought in for an audition. As luck would have it, Producer David Heyman spotted Dan with his parents sitting in a theatre while watching a play. David admits that he was "distracted" by Dan's potential to play Harry and
after a meeting, both the Producer and Dan's parents agreed to have Dan audition.
To Dan's surprise, while sitting in the bath, his father received a phone call and was told that Dan had the part of Harry Potter. Dan admittedly cried with happiness and even woke himself in the middle of the night to ask his dad if it was a dream! J. K. Rowling was in approval of Dan's portraying the character and is quoted as saying, "it was like being reunited with her long, lost son. Having seen Daniel's screen test, I don't think Chris Columbus could have found a better Harry." Dan and the rest of the young cast were called upon for a Photo Shoot in August of 2000. Upon the release of the first film, Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone in November of 2001, Dan had notably appeared on numerous covers of world famous magazines, as well as on popular television talk shows such as Rosie O'Donnell, Oprah, The Today Show, and many more throughout the United States and Europe.
Dan has gone on to portray "Harry Potter" in the next three films adapted by J. K. Rowling's book series, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The fourth film wrapped up in March 2005. Dan has openly admitted that he will also portray "Harry" in the fifth film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which begins filming in January 2006. "On Stage"
In November 2002, Dan had a wonderful opportunity to appear on stage, making his debut in London's West End in "The Play What I Wrote" by Hamish McColl, Sean Foley and Eddie Braben. Directed by Kenneth Branagh, this play invites a mystery guest each opening night to participate in the comedy skit for that evening. Dan explained "it was great fun, but a little scary." He'd certainly like to do more on stage. If you've never seen this play, it's definitely a "must see" if you happen to be near London's West End and on occasion, Broadway in New York City.
Throughout Dan's career, he has received so many awards and nominations; his very first being the "Male Youth Discovery of the Year" in December 2001 at the Golden Apple Awards presented by the Hollywood Women's Press Club. Daniel was nominated by Fennecus in 2001 as well for "Juvenile Performance" for his portrayal of Harry Potter in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. He was nominated again by Fennecus in 2004 for the same award for his performance in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. He went on in February 2002 to win the Variety Club's Award for Outstanding New Talent. Since that time, Dan has been nominated and has won a variety of awards for his portrayal of
Harry Potter to include "Best Performance in a Feature Film", "Best Performance by a Young Actor", and "Best Actor" categories. He has also been nominated and won a variety of other print media and magazine awards as well. He has also won multiple awards, meaning, two years in a row or more, to include Bravo Magazine's Otto Awards, as well as the "Junior Achiever Award" presented by Regis & Kelly's "Relly Awards" show.

- I dont mind being around girls.
- I'm not clumsy, I'm accident-prone!
- I think I'm a tiny bit like Harry 'cos I'd like to have an owl. Yeah, that's a tiny bit actually.
