Emma Watson Biography

Emma Watson
Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born to Jacqueline (1960) and Chris (1960) in Oxfordshire, England on April 15th, 1990. However, she moved to France and lived there for 5 years, before moving back to England where she has lived ever since. Emma Watson was named after her paternal grandmother, who after marriage became "Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson".
Emma Watson, currently 15, now lives with her mother, Jacqueline, in Oxford. Chris and Jacqueline are both lawyers and are now divorced. Emma has a younger brother, named Alex and she also has two cats, Bubbles and Domino, although Domino is actually her brothers.
At school, Emma Watson was very enthusiastic about acting, and took the lead role in several plays, including 'Arthur: The Young Years', 'The Happy Prince' and ‘Alice in Wonderland'. In addition to acting, Emma also participated in many other school productions. At the age of seven she won 1 st prize in a school poetry recital, the Daisy Pratt Poetry Competition. Emma's debut into the world of professional acting came when people from the casting office came to her Oxford primary school. Her head teacher had nominated her and a couple of her friends to audition, and to compete against many other girls for the role of Hermione Granger in the film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
At first Emma Watson just went along for fun, but the more auditions she did, the more serious it became. Emma was up against literally thousands of other actresses, many of whom had a lot more acting experience than herself. Nevertheless, numerous auditions later she had a call at home saying she had received the part, and what a wonderful actress she has turned out to be.
Watson was 11 years old when she made her acting debut in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (released in the United States as Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone) playing Hermione Granger. She has also appeared in the Potter sequels: Chamber of Secrets (2002), Prisoner of Azkaban (2004), and Goblet of Fire (2005). She has dark blonde hair, yet in the films it is brown. Emma is around 5'4" tall and during the filming of the Chamber of Secrets, Emma received the nickname ‘One Take Watson' because she could do a scene in one take, it just proves what a fantastic actress she really is.
By February 5, 2006, Watson is set to complete principal photography for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (set for release in 2007), in which she once again reprises her role as "the brightest witch of [her] age." Through Order of the Phoenix, shooting on the Potter films had kept her too busy to take on other projects; however, she told ES magazine in 2005, "I wouldn't want Harry Potter to be the last thing I do."
When Emma Watson isn't filming, she attends Headington school where she studies Art, History and English. Emma also enjoys playing sport; especially hockey, tennis and rounders. Away from the cinematic world, she loves spending time with her friends, shopping and going to the cinema. Her favourite films include Shawshank Redemption, Gladiator, Braveheart, Pride & Prejudice, Grease, Shrek, and Ocean's 11. Her favourite actors/actresses are: Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt & Renee Zellwegger.
